According to Yale University, dyslexia affects 1 out of 5 people but with proper instruction and accommodations, it can be remediated.  While there are numerous curricula and programs designed to increase literacy, dyslexia is often overlooked when searching for causes of illiteracy.  Dyslexia is the most common reading disability--20% of the population is struggling with this hidden disability, and many remain undiagnosed, untreated, and struggling with the impact of their dyslexia. Many children have difficulty learning how to read or improving their reading. Some read reasonably well, but their spelling and writing skills are poor. If any of these issues sound familiar, your child is a prime candidate for a reading evaluation.

SpeechAbility performs reading evaluations for dyslexia, reading comprehension disorders, and other reading difficulties. An evaluation at SpeechAbility will take a look at:
  • Student and family history
  • Parent report
  • School report
  • Standardized testing information
Our testing for reading disorders typically will take anywhere between 2-4 hours depending on a number of factors and can be performed all on one day or divided into 2 testing sessions.  A separate 2 hour meeting is then scheduled with parents to review the results of the evaluation and report, discuss treatment options, and discuss specific information about your child's reading disorder.

***If you are interested in scheduling a reading evaluation for your child or teenager, or would just like more information about the testing process at SpeechAbiity, feel free to contact us. However, an Evaluation Intake form must be completed prior to scheduling an evaluation.

What Clients Say
“Allison has been a critical part in helping my daughter learn how to read more efficiently and she is now reading above her 5th grade-level. I am so thankful for all she has done for our family.” -Amy

“Not only were we able to schedule an evaluation with Mrs. Winters within 3 weeks of initially calling, she answered all of my questions so we knew exactly what to expect on the day of testing. She also set aside time for a separate 2 hour meeting for my husband and me explaining all of Nathan’s results and gave us a plan to help him with his reading!” -Nicki N.

"Mrs. Winters helped me a lot with my reading. At first I didn't like having to go see her every week after school but now I don't mind at all because I can read!" -Luke Z.
